Manager, Executive, Consultant or student working
or studying in the field of Human Resources and
related disciplines. Many of our members are also
members of other Human Resource organizations.
This is the right organization for you if you
are seeking to network with African Americans
in Human Resources within the Birmingham area
and if you are interested in career development
and growth opportunities.

BIRMINGHAM COMMITTEES
Getting
involved matters. It helps you to hasten your
network opportunities with other professionals
like yourself and it provides the vital link to
making the Birmingham chapter successful. Our
professional activities and network activities
are the key! Review our committees and join one,
the sooner you get started the faster you are
to helping us, help ourselves.
Finance
Committee: the Finance Committee is
responsible for managing the funds of the organization
and establishing appropriate internal controls.
Annually this committee will develop the organization's
budget, and revise working budgets for the current
year as required. The Finance Committee shall
make recommendations regarding the approval of
all expenditures outside the approval budget and
may form a budget committee if required. The Treasurer
will serve as Chairperson. The Committee shall
meet on the call of the President or Treasurer.
Conference Planning Committee:
the Conference Planning Committee is responsible
for developing themes, identifying locations,
and planning and implementing the national conference.
The Committee will also approve themes and provide
support for the regional and local conferences.
External Affairs Committee:
The External Affairs Committee is responsible
for coordinating the public image of the organization,
managing media contracts, advertising, logos,
publicity etc. The committee shall keep the organization
in the public eye through press releases, interviews,
advertising and other means said and /or otherwise,
to project a positive and informative image of
the organization. The Committee shall make contact
with officials, the general public and other organizations
related to the community action and tie in those
activities, which the Chapter organization can
dynamically assist, through involvement, monies,
instruction, or other assistance. The Vice-President
for External Affairs will serve as Committee Chairperson.
Legislative Affairs Committee:
The Legislative Affairs Committee is responsible
for monitoring and advising the organization on
key national legislative issues and recommending
strategies for action on these issues. The President
shall appoint a member to serve as Committee Chairperson.
Governmental Affairs
Committee: The Governmental Affairs
Committee will be represented at such functions
and activities related to government and political
activities that will benefit the membership. Information
may be exchanged which reflects the views of the
Organization. The President shall appoint a member
to serve as Committee Chairperson.
Fundraising Committee: The Fundraising
Committee is responsible for generating funds
through grant endowments, etc and through fundraising
activities to support the goals and objectives
of the organization. The Vice-President of Fundraising
serves as the Committee Chairperson.
Human Resources Research
Committee: The
Human Resources Research Committee is responsible
for identifying areas of research on workforce
issues and trends, creating a forum for the publication
of research and dissemination of research findings,
human resource trends and employment related data;
providing access current human resources data
and establishing a Human Resources Institute.
The President will appoint a member of the organization
to serve as Committee Chairperson.
Executive Committee:
The Executive Committee shall consist of
the elected officers of the Corporation. Between
meeting of the Board of Directors, the Executive
Committee may perform the functions that the Board
itself might perform, except that it may not take
any action or position which is inconsistent with
any taken by the Board.
Program Committee:
The Program Committee shall prepare the
ongoing programs that will be presented at the
regular meetings and the annual meeting and will
arrange for speaker's ands other special activities
as appropriate and approved by the Board of Directors.
The Vice President of Programs shall serve as
chapter Chairperson.
Membership Committee:
The Membership Committee will be responsible for
maintaining the growth and retention of members
of the Corporation. The Vice President for Member
Services shall serve as Committee Chairperson.
Main responsibilities include recruiting members,
developing programs which facilitate the employment
of African Americans in human resources positions,
providing the database of candidates for non-human
resources positions being filled by members, developing
programs to increase interest in human resources
as career choice, providing career and professional
development and enhancement programs, and other
services as identified.
Bylaws Committee:
The By-laws Committee shall maintain the by-laws
of the Corporation and present changes for vote
as required by other sections of these by-laws.
The Chairperson of the By-laws Committee shall
be the Parliamentarian.
Community Outreach Committee:
The Community Outreach Committee shall establish
programs to provide education and self- development
opportunities to the community. The President
shall appoint a member to serve as Committee Chairperson.
